Policy priorities:
Steve is recognized state-wide as an innovative problem-solver and high-impact champion of a more sustainable food system equity in schools, and access to financing for small businesses.
Policy priorities include:
Access to Housing including first-time homeownership down payment assistance and incentives to rent for essential workers;
Fully funded Public Schools where every child feels safe to express themselves;
Thriving Communities with local jobs, and resources for climate resilience including fire and flood prevention and mitigation; and
Healthy Food Systems supporting family farms, farm-to-school, climate-friendly farming, and access to organic produce for seniors.
A Life of Service to the Community
and people-centered Public Policy
Steve Schwartz taught farmers in rural Thailand as a Peace Corps volunteer. As a Chief of Staff in the Assembly, he championed legislation that helped California farmers reduce chemical pesticide use.
He went on to build a multimillion-dollar nonprofit that empowered beginning, immigrant, and women farmers to secure land, access capital, and grow successful farm businesses. He also created and operated his own family-owned organic farm, feeding local communities for 20 years and welcoming more than 2,000 visitors to learn how family-farm values, conservation, and stewardship strengthen community.
In short, Steve Schwartz is one of the North Bay’s most dynamic and innovative public servants.
In the State Assembly, he will tackle the housing crisis, ensure equitable and fully funded public education for every child, and fight climate change by expanding and empowering local sustainable agriculture.
